Subject: [ferrethealth] Insulinoma Ferret treatment
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hi, I just joined the group. I have 2 ferrets, India who is 1.5 years old and healthy, and Angie who is around 2-3 (adopted: age unknown) and she was diagnosed with insulinoma in October. Since then I have seen a huge decline in her. Our vet started her on 0.1ml prednisolone once a day. She quickly had a huge episode and was bumped to the same dose twice a day. She still was doing poorly. We kept bumping the dose: we're currently at 0.3ml prednisolone twice a day. She gets ground kibble (Wellness Kitten/Felidae/Natural Balance/8in1 Ultimate) in warm water twice a day with her meds. (as to prevent ulcers). I still feel like I'm losing her. The vet I am seeing is the most knowledgable I have found anywhere near me. He did not do a BG test because he felt that they are unrelaible and it would be better to monitor her the way that we are doing. I don't fully agree with him, but understand his reasoning. He said surgery is an option but the sucess rate is low and the growths will return. Of course I don't want Angie to feel any pain, or have a poor quality of life. I just got her in May, I'm not ready to lose her yet. If there are any other suggestions, ideas, anything I am open to them. Thank you very much,
Ashley
