Hi, everyone,

In my experience this is true of most ferrets. Having
said that I've seen ferrets that only developed one of
the above in old age. For example, I've had ferrets
who died of lymphoma at age six or seven that had no
previous medical problems.

The general rule I tell people is that the average
ferret will have one major health crisis in their life
requiring surgery and/or costing $1,000 or more.
That's an average, which means some will mainly stay
healthy and others will have multiple problems. My
most expensive and medically challenged ferret,
Pertwee, cost me about $8,000 in five and a half
years. I've had others who cost me nothing more
than routine medical expenses (i.e.: vaccinations and
checkups) and then had an illness that took them from
me very quickly at the end of their life.

Of the three diseases you cited adrenal is probably
the most common and it is also the one that you can
usually treat successfully. Lymphoma/lymphosarcoma is
the worst of the three.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, just a
moderately experienced ferret owner.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic four
