This is called DIM, which stands for Disseminated Idiopathic Myositis.
The following is something written by Dr. Katrina Ramsell, a vet that is pretty deeply involved in trying to find the answers to this condition.

Dr. Ramsell welcomes calls from VETS who suspect they have a ferret with this condition. Her contact info is in the above article. She may have new information concerning treatment and your vet would do well to call her, as DIM does sound like a possibility given the symptoms you mentioned.
