Winston's point is an excellent one. Yes, there certainly could be an injury, yes, there could be a disease complication, but hind limb weakness is a very general symptom in ferrets and a range of serious medical disorders can cause it. In a ferret with preexisting heart disease one consideration to which it points is reevaluating the disease and meds and trying adjustments. At this point, especially given the fall after preexisting trouble getting around he may haven more than one thing going on.

BTW, are you sure that you are looking at extra fat weight rather than fluid from heart disease thatcould now use better control?

It sure would not hurt to run a CBC with Chemistry Panel and do a chest ultrasound to share with a cardiac consultant who is used to ferret hearts. We have used such professionals with complicated cases and been uniformly grateful that we did.
