Subject: [ferrethealth] Info Needed
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Our ninth and newest ferret shelter adoptee came home with us about 2
weeks ago. She had what my wife called a " croupy" type of cough.
Apparently this was also noted in the shelter. She is anywhere from 2-4
yrs old and was abandoned with 5 others. She has a beautiful brown-gold
color and is otherwise in good health. Our wonderful vet did a wellness
check today and also a chest x-ray to evaluate the cough. There is an
area on the x-ray which appears to be a thymus tumor. It is behind the
trachea. Dr X offered us several options.

1.Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration to confirm diagnosis
2. An endoscopy to obtain tissue samples
3. Just take her home and make her as happy as possible. Life expectancy
could be up to eight months or longer, maybe a year.

We have lost 4 girls in the past year and a half (as I once wrote, we
adopt unadoptable ferrets due to illness) and want to do all that we can
for this new one.

Anyone with a more info or experience with this neoplasm? We would
appreciate any thoughts or advice Thank you.

Stephen
