Subject: [ferrethealth] Lupron dose above 500mcg? Adrenal ferret is going down hill...
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hello everyone,

I have a five and a half year old adrenal male on Lupron (500 mcg inj once a month. increased to this dose about 4 months ago...was on 250mcg before that) and melatonin implant. While the sexual aggression appears to be under control, he has lost a lot of hair over that past 6 months and looks bony than usual, though I dont think he has lost weight (need to check). I know muscles begin to atrophy with adrenal. I was wondering if there is a higher dose of lupron safe and available for ferrets, or should I just reserve my self to the fact that the disease is taking its course and enjoy my time with him...all in all he is doing well, but more tired lately (plays for about 45 min at a time instead of an hour like he used to). still has a great appetite.

I should add that this ferret has had some issues over the last few months and is on pedia pred (0.5 ml SID). He has elevated insulin levels, though his glucose is normal. Maybe this is related to the sudden turn down hill adrenal wise...

BTW...I have major problems with finding a good ferret vet in MN. I have been to three now. Just when I think I have found one, I am treated kind of crappy as a client.
