Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Ferret with Bad Breath
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

First thing would be advanced gingivitis, which I see regularly in the
oldtimers I foster. If that is not present, I would suspect something even more
serious as Alicia Drakiotes mentioned. A prompt vet visit is a must in any
event. I lost a ferret to cardiomyopathy/heart block whose first symptom was bad
breath resulting from advanced gingivitis. The infection went from his gums to
his heart. We live and learn, but ferrets die along the way to enable that
to happen, unfortunately.

This points out the critical importance of YOU HUMANS seeing your dentist
regularly, too! :)
