Years ago when I checked around that is much what I was told; in fact a lot of vets would not do it at all and those said to instead see a vet opthalmologist. Haleakalala got to keep her eye despite the severe injury she had and we periodically made a four to six (depending on conditions) hour round trip for her eye care. (Hale was person's breeder and was retired when a mounting male put a canine into one of her eyes; then she came to us.)
