Subject: [ferrethealth] knee injury
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

In a matter of 24 hours my 61/2 year old ferret went from playing normally to limping on his back leg. The next day we saw the vet,x-rays were done and there were no fractures found. The vet says that even though she has never seen it in a ferret she believes the injury to be a torn or detached A.C.L. She did not recommend surgery and suggested that we keep him VERY confined for the next two weeks at least, and them come back in for a recheck. She also stated that she was not comfortable giving any medications for pain { he doesn't seem to be in any pain, I am just concerned that I might not know if he is in pain or not. }He is eating fairly well and getting even more rest than normal. Would you advise bolstering his diet with "DUCK SOUP "? He has always been a very long and lean ferret, he weighs about 1 lb. 13 oz. Any help or advice or information of any kind would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Angie Rothenstine
