Breathing difficulties are further evidence that ascites is present. if she is having trouble breathing then call the vet and see if you can perhaps get some Lasix/Furosemide fast, either from the vet or from a pharmacy. That will show if using a diurectic will permit healthier breathing.
I think that you should read up on cardiomyopathy which is the most common cause. There is a compilation in the Files section and there is further info in the Archives.
