You are in a hard place. Sadly, this is a difficult spot that happens when economic situations change unexpectedly, or when people have a large number of ferrets, or have ferrets who were all born around the same time.

To know what to do it is necessary to have grasp of what is wrong. Be absolutely frank with your vet. Hands on assessment will give the best and most informed guesses (if diagnostic testing can not be afforded) of how you should proceed. It won't be perfect or even optimal, but it will be dramatically better than long distance guesses.

It may be that you can work up a labor arrangement to offset some costs, or perhaps if fortunate you can find a way to off-set other costs and redirect those funds.

With large abdomens you have to think about whether adrenal disease might cause marked abdominal fat deposition, whether there may be abdominal fluids due to serious diseases -- some of which can be treated to provide quality of life and increased longevity, whether there may be an enlarged spleen and if so to what degree and from what cause, whether there may be a tumor, whether there may be something in the intestine such as an ingested foreign body, etc.

I think that your first step is a clear one: you need to be very forthright with a ferret vet during a veterinary visit and then seriously take into consideration what that expert suggests.
