Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: barium test
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hi, barium is a very safe medium that is designed to be ingested for conscious humans , especially children, si it is made very palatable. It is extremely safe and sticks to the intestinal lining as it works through. I have worked in a et clinic for 19 years and have seen it used often. I have also seen it used on many pets that were thought to have intestinal obstructions but in fact only had a bad case of gastro! Amazingly though because of its amazing absorbable properties it has been known to actually settle these cases down. I have a young ferret who was throwing up for 3 days and I was scared he had an obstruction so I did a barium series. No obstruction and he hasn't thrown up since ( a week ago). He only needed about 2.5ml and he liked the taste. (Its normally either strawberry or banana- designed for kids
