To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

First of all, thank you for giving us your time today to be vigilant over the FHL
messages asking for help.

The ferret exhibited, prior to my giving Amoxy, a temp of 104.9. Within 72 hrs of
administering Amoxy, it fluctuated between 103.9 - 105.1

The stools are those of an otherwise, very healthy ferret; well formed, firm, color
was consistent with food given, abnormally large if anything. The only thing
suspicious of the stool (I did a smear), was the presence of a mucouso-like lining.
Think of a sausage and it's casing.

The onset of the tremors and muscle weakness was as if someone threw a switch.
He was bouncing off the walls during evening playtime, and the next morning
unable to stand up. The play area is parvo'd inbetween play groups. The playpen is
4' x 8', sits 3.4' off the floor, has a non-porous laminate floor, plastic screen siding,
and has toys and tubing, litter pans with paper towels instead of litter so that I can
easily monitor stools and urinary output during this time out.

His appetite is literally voracious. He doesn't know when to stop, and this is with
intermittent daily feedings of 4 - 8 times a day of Carnivore Care. With that, I've
supplemented with 2.0cc Nutrical, 0.3 Hi-Vite, and 0.1cc Ferretone. He has
wobbled over to eat a small amount of kibble and drink from a crock of Pedialyte.

Please forgive me, but I don't know how to add the scanned copy of his bloodwork
link here. I've set up an album in the FHL Pictures File. Go to Rocky's Ferret Rescue
and Shelter, and you'll see a scanned copy of his blood values.

Dr. X, at Y is familiar with the procedures to provide specimens for Dr. Garner. He
has not been in touch with Dr. Gardner, as I refused to give Spike up at the time the
bloodwork and diagnosis was reviewed with me. The dilemma of course, is the
holiday weekend, as well as Monday. Right now, my mission is to keep Spike alive
until Tuesday. I swear, he's fighting this with all he has. Of course you understand
the paradox I've got; comfort and treat vs prepare for study. I do need to know
whether Metacam is going to adversely affect the pathology.

This is a tough question to ask, but would there be any benefit in my providing the
live animal (yes, he has a name and it's Spike), but I've got my pragmatic front on
for the purpose of this post, kinda, but not totally.

Thank you.

Affectionately,
Barb Clay
