Subject: [ferrethealth] Low red cell blood count
I have a three year old male ferret "Moose". He suddenly quit playing and was not eating very much. I took him to my vet and after a blood test I was told he had a extremely low red blood cell count and he did not seem to be producing enough red blood cells. The decision was made to give him a blood transfusion from a healthy young ferret i was fostering for the local shelter. This procedure went well. He seems to be eating a little more now but no big change. The vet is rechecking his blood test and i am bringing him back in this Wednesday. Also i should mention that he would appear to have early stages of adrenal disease that may have been masked by a melatonin implant. He is loosing fur on his hind quarters.
If anyone has any ideas as to what could be causing his troubles i would greatly appreciate hearing them.
Thanks you all very much.
Peter
