Subject: [ferrethealth] orange around mouth and excessivley dirty ears?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced
their older ferrets having very dirty ears? Ellie is
8 and I can't keep her ears clean and I am 99% sure
she does not have ear mites, she has been checked
before. She has also developed some weird build up
around her mouth. It is the same color as the ear wax
brownish orange. Ellie is old, fat, on prednisone and
eats chicken babyfood mixed in with totally ferret
(for older ferts). Poor Ellie has also developed two
skin growths/tumors. They look like warts and bleed
easily. The vet does not want to put her under
because she is so old and is on the prednisone for
some strange, undiagnosed breathing disorder she got
ill with last April. They said she would die shortly
that is was probably a tumor. 9 months later she is
still with us basically the same and for some odd
reason after 9 long months of not eating kibble has
decided to try it again???? Ferrets never cease to
stop amazing me!!! Oh and what is the best thing to
use to clean her ears? I have been using diluted
vinegar as per vet.
Thanks,
Kelly
