Subject: [ferrethealth] neutered ferret
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
Hello from a rescued ferret collected 09/01/06. The health query I have is this little ferret was operated on only to discover he had already been neutered. I am astounded the vet was not aware of the signs of an intact male ferret approx 3-4years of age. This ferret has none of the classic indicators of an intact male. This has resulted in the ferret's penis protruding and looking quite swollen. I have not encountered this problem in my six years of ferret keeping with numerous rescues coming through my doors.
Is this something to be deeply concerned about or should I continue to monitor this and see if swelling subsides?
I find many vets are working by trial and error when it comes to ferrets and welcome information and guidance from other sources in the know about these beautiful little creatures.
The newcomer will greatly appreciate any advice.
(not named yet as he only arrived today)
Many cheers
Helen
