My local vet - not the one I have to travel to - said he has never seen a
lipoma in a ferret. He said he has seen it in a dog - and that one reported a
carcinoma, but that most lipomas are benign. (My reply: it still is
space-occupying.) I have not researched this, but will. I am interested in what you have to
say about this and also wondering if anyone has experience with it.
**I have seen subcutaneous lipomas in ferrets, although not intra-abdominal.
Then again, I still haven't seen an abdominal lipoma in a dog, that location
being far less common. While I agree that the majority of lipomas are benign,
the fact that it is causing discomfort would make me recommend removal if the
ferret seems healthy enough to go through surgery. At the same time, his
insulinoma could be surgically addressed.**
