Subject: [ferrethealth] Biaxin & Amoxy why use 2 antibiotics?

I have a 7.5 yr old male mf ferret. He's been having ongoing stomach problems. Diarhea and nausea. He's previously been treated for helicobacter 2 other times. This time I asked my vet if we could try the biaxin because the flagyl is just too hard to give my boy.(he now has leaking valves in his heart and don't want to stress him out). I've read the protocols for treating the helicobacter but what I can't understand is why must you use amoxy and biaxin at the same time? Isn't that going a little overboard on antibiotcs? I did the regimen for 2 weeks and my ferret was fine but within a weeks time he's having stomach problems again. (we are thinking stress induced because he had to be taken to a cardiologist for ekg) This time the vet only prescribed the biaxin and no amoxy. Is this not going to work? I haven't started giving him the biaxin yet til I can maybe find something out about the combination of the 2 drugs.
Thanks
Lisa
