Subject: [ferrethealth] snacks
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

heard many negative things about "blockage in a bag" type snacks. Now for treats I usually just give my ferret a ferret kibble he normally doesn't get to eat. He gets 1/2 Foamy Fry after grooming or school appearances (about 2x/wk). And was giving him 1/2 N-bone whenever caged him to leave his house (mostly to keep him occupied while I leave so he won't give me those "please don't cage me" looks).

My fiancee got a food dehydrator and thought it would be fun to make him treats. But I've heard people say jerky can cause blockage, too. Is it unsafe to dehydrate turkey or chicken meat or skin for chewing treats?

Should she ditch the dehydrator? Any suggestions on healthy treats she can make? (she's in Chicago & we're in Cleveland so making him treats is only connection she has with him right now).
