Subject: [ferrethealth] Things Teddy and I are learning about managing EGE
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I don't know if I can be of any assistance to others. I feel that so many people on this board have so much more experience than I do. But, just in case...these are the things Teddy and I are learning as we go:

Me: Using silicone litter is NOT a good thing.

Teddy: Eating silicone litter is NOT a good thing.

(The vet thinks that this was the original problem which lead to a chronic intestinal irritation which turned into this mess.)

Amforol, while nasty smelling and Teddy "says" nasty tasting, has made an immediate improvement in his diahrrea. In 2 days he has gone from completely liquid stools to soft, but well formed stools.

Pred and any other hard pill thing that you would normally have to force down their throat can be crushed and mixed in with Nutrical.

A box knife will easily cut off the tip of a 5cc syringe. This is the perfect size to feed it to them and it doesn't clog up. Teddy just eats it off the end of the syringe as it gets pushed out. He gets his meds plus Nutrical without a fight.

Innove Evo is high protein and completely grain free. Teddy loves it.

Regular size kibble of any kind sets off his digestive tract spasms and causes immediate severe vomiting. Teddy will not eat soften food - he says there will be no discussion on this matter.

I found that if I put the Evo in the food processor and grind it up until it is almost completely mealy with little chucks about the size of a small rhinestone (about 4-5mm) he can eat this in quantity without setting off the digestive tract spasms.

I'll post as we learn new things. Regardless of how this turns out for us, maybe our experiences and the things he and I learn as we go can help others.
