You are doing exactly the right thing in the way that you are presenting the food for optimum safety -- with your ferret calling the shots and food not sploshed into the mouth. (*If* you ever need to use a more intensive approach have your vet or one of the techs at the hospital then show you how to manage those techniques safely to avoid aspiration pneumonia.)
