Okay, let's tackle two things here, because we all already know that sick animals need veterinary care, though sadly we do here sometimes run into people posting who don't consider that, and those posts usually don't mention any attempts by vets to find what was wrong.

Here are the two things that will help you if you have any other ferrets at home, and if they can't help you then they may help someone else: lists of ferret veterinarians, resources that help vets who don't normally treat ferrets learn about them I am hoping that some list members jump in with mentions of additional veterinary resources. You did not say where you are located.

You can also ask regional clubs, look in magazines, and do Google searches.

Vet texts (and I know that I am missing at least one here):
At least one new one will be published this year, perhaps two. Your vet will have access to the major veterinary publishers so will regularly get updates on what can be ordered, but you may want to purchase resources for your vet to read. I know that in the early years we did that multiple times to help vets and therefore further help our ferrets despite pinching pennies in relation to ourselves. Some of these are now out of print but can be found with searching. For example, if you go to Amazon.com you will find some for reduced prices, both new and used.

Searching there under books for

ferret veterinary

I find mention of a text I have not heard of before which has not yet been released, so if that is by a ferret vet it makes as many as three ferret vet texts being released this year.

Anyone have data about:
The 5-minute Veterinary Consult: Ferret And Rabbit
by Barbara L. Oglesbee (Hardcover - March 15, 2006)?

Also there are three of the texts we have in our own home to help list members and ourselves:

_Biology and Disease of the Ferret, 2nd edition_

_Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents, Clinical Medicine and Surgery, 2nd edition_

_Ferret Husbandry, Medicine and Surgery_

Others may be harder for you to find, but FHL members may have some ideas to help you or other people who may be caught in a similar bind.

People do understand the difficulty of getting care because many of us travel for such care and a number of us help vets learn, with those of us who have had ferrets a long time recalling the early years of doing so.
