You can substitute carafate for the Pepto in the first group. It seems to be a lot more palatable than the Pepto, though it is also more expensive and requires a prescription. I much prefer it to the Pepto. The metronidazole does have a horrible taste, though you can overcome this to some extent if you can get a compounding pharmacist to flavor it with something your fuzzbutt likes. Or, if he likes grape flavor, I have found that you can mix each dose with a few drops of Welches Juicemakers (the non-frozen concentrate). Mine still didn't like it, but there was no more drooling and gagging over it, just the normal resistance to taking meds.
Check this with your vet, but I believe the amoxi/biaxin only needs to be given for two weeks, while the amoxi/metro must be given for four to six weeks. In either case, the carafate must be continued for six weeks.

Why not use the liquid Pepto instead of splitting pills? Just figure out the dose represented by 1/15th of a tablet, and give the equivalent in the liquid suspension. I believe they now have a cherry-flavored liquid version, which may taste better. The tablets contain 262 mg of the active ingredient, so 1/15 would be 17.5 mg. The liquid contains 262 mg in each 15 ml tablespoon, so 1/15 would simply be 1 ml (or 1 cc).
