Subject: [ferrethealth] Update on Shadow's lipoma
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I took Shadow to the vet on Wed. He has gained a little weight but it is less than what it was in Dec when we did the ultrasound (same scale and weigher). He is at 1071 grams, which is pretty near his usual weight. The vet could not feel the tumor. I have discontinued the prednisone with no apparent ill effects. I will check his blood glucose today.

Here is what the ultrasound said for those of you who are interested.
The spleen was of normal size and echogenicity.
The liver and gall bladder appeared normal. Normal portal areas are seen. There was no distension of the GB or bile ducts.
Left kidney measured 2.0 cm, Right kidney measured 2.5 cm. Both kidneys had normal echogenicity.
Both adrenals were hypoechoic but within normal size. LA=9.5x5.0mm; RA=6.5x4.5mm.
The small intestines were uniform in appearance. They were 2.6 mm in thickness.
Urinary bladder: WNL, no stones or masses noted.
Other: The prostate was slightly enlarged. No cystic structures or masses noted. In the omental fat there was a circular structure of similar echogenicity. It was 2.3x1.9cm. I could not feel it on palpation. R/O include a lipom, other mass, or an area of fibrin or scar tissue demarcating this area. No free fluid was seen in the abdomen.
-end of report-

As I said, at least 5 or 6 vets have said they felt nothing over the past nearly 2 years now that I have been concerned about the *difference.* Everyone said they felt he was just getting *fat.* And, only one vet mentioned the enlarged prostate on palpation.

Now, any more ideas? I was advised by my local vet to just wait at this point because he felt that unless there were more symptoms or some sign it was growing, that surgery may not be indicated. Shadow is off the pred now and he does not know if that is a coincidence or had some effect on the *mass.* Thanks once more for input.

renee :)
