Subject: [ferrethealth] Administering Prednisone
I often see posts where ferrets develop ulcers while taking prednisone. I think that
often vets "forget" to tell their clients that pred should be given with food. Always,
always make sure your ferret eats a good bit of food with its pred.
I feed 20-30mL of soup with every dose of pred. I give the pediapred after I get
through about 15-20mL, kinda in the middle. I have a little girl who gets a fairly large
dose of pediapred three times a day, and we have prevented ulcers for over 1 1/2
years following this regimen.
