Subject: [ferrethealth] Milo and loose stools
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Milo is about 18 months old. He was 2.4 lbs when he came to use at 13 months old. His weight went up to 2.8 lbs and then started dropping. He has healthy appetite. Very active. I took him too the vet when I noticed a 0.4 lb drop in his weight. Doc prescribed pepto, clavamox, metro, CHCP drops every 12 hrs for 2 weeks. He hated me and the meds. But we got them in him. His diarrhea went away and he gained 0.2 lbs.

Now the diarrhea is back and his weight is down to 1.8lbs. I started him on acidophilus enzyme, yogurt and Imodium. His stools are going from very loose with fat in them to peanut butter to pudding like. He eats like a pig.

I am at a lose what to do with him. He absolutely hates the med combo. Why does this seem to come back. When he potties he is gassy.

When I first got him he had normal stools. I am wondering if its a food issue. His favor food is the hairball formulation that I add to the mix. I have tried taking it out the mix completely and he get angry sulks and refuses to eat. I have tried giving him kitten formulation of the same brand and he was not happy. Should I try getting him off the hairball formulation? Do you think this is the root of the diarrhea? None of my other ferrets have any bowel problems and none of the others have been sick at all.

Is it possible that he is having problems digesting the very high quality food that I give him? He was a return to the petstore with NO history. Not even the food that he had been on.
