Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Pedialite - Good or Bad?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

There is no difference in the flavored or unflavored pedialyte, all the
same contents and glucose. I would only be careful about leaving it out
too
long, it is suppose to be refrigerated once open and then discarded after
so many days. I think if left out you would have to worry about mold
growth,
or bacteria due to the yummy glucose in it. But for 2 hours??? it should
be ok.... I don't know how long , depends on the temps of the room it is
in.

He wont' get that much added calories from it, just some additional
electrolytes,
and a little glucose. Really all dependent on how much he even drinks,
if much at all. Adding liquids in his diet, like if you make him a
special
gravy for hand feedings water it down a little,
and/or sub Q fluids under his skin daily- if really has
trouble keeping hydrated may work better?

I didn't follow the previous posts, but I had a boy with the same problem
and had
a heck of a time with him, his main problem was digesting the foods and
the loss of nutrients. The fluid loss alone was not so hard to replace (
I could
give him sub Q fluids daily) , it was the needed protein and calories
from food.
I did have my boy on lamb baby food. To try to cut out the chicken
in case of allergies.
Science z/d I think is the one made for cats with chicken allergies, and
there
are some other special cat foods like potato and rabbit ( or something
like that)
made for cats with chicken/rice/ corn allergies- it may be worth a try.
Ask your vet if he is not already on some special food.
