We just had a ferret with the same problem.
I would have your vet put your ferret on Amoxi, Metronidazole, and
carafate. Continue the carafate for a while after the 2 weeks of amoxi and
metro.
Clavamox is not needed, you can just use amoxicillin. Also the carafate
was spaced every 8hours and the metro and amoxi were given at the same
time every 12 hours. We saw extremely rapid sucess with method.
Do not be afraid to discuss ideas with your vet :)
