Subject: [ferrethealth] hair loss-not adrenal
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

The reason why I'm seeking advice is that one of my friend's ferret has
problems with her skin. After the last seasonal coat change her fur didn't
grow back as it should have. Now it's very thin, she looks like those that I
have seen in photos to have adrenal problems.

According to the examinations done her hormones are fine (sexual hormones,
too), her liver function is OK, she has no allergy, no signs of immune
problems or infections. She has no mites or any other infection on her skin
that usually can cause such symptoms.
Only one thing has been found: for some unknown reason her hair follicles
are dying. And the vets are stuck.

Has anyone experienced or heard of such? Any info or advice would be
appreciated...

As for the girl: she's about three years old, albino, she was neutered
during her first heat, she has born defects due to careless breeding such as
she's half a size of an average girl, she's one eye blind, but that's it.
She has never had any other health problems as far as I know. May it also be
part of her born defects?

Thanks for help,

Nelli
