Subject: [ferrethealth] My Edgar has went to the rainbow bridge

My Egdar passed on to the rainbow bridge last night. What we thought was the beginnings of congestive heart failure, was actually secondary to a cancer filled abdomen discovered by ultrasound yesterday afternoon. While Edgar's spleen had been enlarged for some time, Edgar had gained 12 oz in the last four months, and his spleen had become riddled with lesions on the right side, and his right kidney was nearly 3 cm across and 4 cm long, and very cystic looking. Given that Edgar had an infected right adrenal, we suspect it was adrenal cancer that had spread, or possibly lymphoma, given that this occured quite rapidly. It was only about two months ago his kidneys looked great, as well as the spleen (except hematopoesis. His abdomen was very swollen and uncomfortable for him. I took him home to try and make him comfortable, maybe have a few more days with him, but then at about midnight as I was laying on the floor next to his bed, I just knew he wasn't doing well. His breathing was very rapid and heavy, he couldnt get comfortable to get rest because he abdomen was so swollen...I knew it was time. I couldnt keep him around for my benefit...what kind of life would that be? He was in obvious discomfort, and that killed me. A vet I work with met me at the clinic...he went really peacefully in my arms. As hard as it was to lose him, it was harder to see him suffer. I know he is in a better place now.
I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for the countless advice and support you have given me over the past five years with Edgar. He was my first ferret, and was the reason I joined the FHL. There are many times I turned to this forum in times of need with him, so you all helped him to live the long and wonderful life he did.
