The thing about heavy cream is that it has low amounts of lactose (about 3%) and high amounts of fat (which is what a ferret uses for energy instead of sugars/carbohydrates), and is generally palatable to ferrets, which makes it useful for ferrets that won't eat or need to gain weight. You can always pick up some lactase in the vitamin aisle and add it to the cream, if necessary. Yogurt is generally safe if there are no added milk solids used in its manufacture, and even better if it contains live and active cultures, since yogurt bacteria makes lactase. However, many yogurts have higher amounts of lactose than milk! There are also low-lactose and no-lactose milks on the market, though I can't see that these would be useful except maybe as a rare treat for a fert that really likes milk.
