Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Xray shows stone? blockage? what?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I just don't know. Mr Vet said that the spot is so opaque that it has to be something
very solid--either a stone or a foriegn object (or a bone, but in this case that's not
possible.) So, not a tumor and probably not a lesion--a lesion is a sore, right? Like
an ulcer? The wife, Mrs Vet, on the phone today (after I complained about such a
cursory checkup), said it looks like the coatal (sp?) stomach area. His spleen had
been slightly enlarged last year so I asked Mr Vet about that specifically (and several
times) in connection with the fat. I was told that, no, this appears to be just fat. No
suggestions or concern about what would make a high spirited ferret just suddenly
start eating until he blows up like a balloon, except to make vague references to
pred belly. But Mrs Vet did mention the organs seeming squished to one side by a
mass that didn't show up on the xray. She said from the direction the organs are
being pushed, it might be on the mesentery (which I suspect just means middle) or
a lymph node. They don't have ultrasound here, and my "ferret vet" two hours away
doesn't have it either. I'm switching ferret vets, and the new one may be able to
handle that.

Buddy leaks urine, especially after peeing, there'll be a major trail. Sometimes I pick
him up to hold him and get a dribble all over my shirt. I don't think he does it when
he's sleeping.

They're usually very conscientious, but I'm pretty upset about this last visit. It was
VERY expensive for this area (probably cheap for other areas), and I had to weigh
both ferrets on the way out because he didn't do it during the visit--even though
both were in for weight related issues. And I don't think he even touched either one,
except to verify Yogi's dehydration (duh!) and hand Buddy to the tech for xrays. I
don't want to make either one mad, because I live in such a remote area.
