Subject: [ferrethealth] Question about Adrenal Tumor & Treatment
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
We recently had one of our rescues in for adrenal surgery. What the vet found was
rather disturbing for us.
Tweek is an approximately 4 year old sable female, who came to us via our vet after
her original owners brought her in for euthanasia.
When the vet did surgery, he said that her R adrenal gland was huge, it
encompasses her Vena Cava and has spread to her liver. He said the tumor on the
gland was so large, that he couldn't find her L adrenal at all. So he sewed her up and
sent her back to us to die.
Now, my question. When a ferret has surgery for adrenal disease, and the vet feels
that nothing can be done, will placing them on sublingual melatonin (since the
implants aren't working & at this time we can't afford the lupron) help? Also, if she is
placed on prednisolone, will it help slow the progress of the tumor on the liver
down?
The vet didn't send anything out for pathology as he felt the tumors were
Lymphosarcoma. It that normal in an otherwise healthy ferret?
