Subject: [ferrethealth] How to Treat Scratches?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

This is not, I suppose, an emergency question, but it feels that way to me. Our
little guy, Snuffy, got out of his cage during the day today. When we returned home
and found him not in his cage, we panicked. A short, frantic, time later, we found
him sound asleep... a little thirsty (not really dehydrated by pinch test) and a little
hungry.

However, he does have a number of scratches on his back (head, shoulders, and
rear). They appear very superficial, and none were bleeding when we found him.
They all appear to be scabbing cleanly at this time (around an hour after we found
him).

Is there anything other than watching them closely (and his sister's grooming, of
course), that we can do for these scratches on him? We don't know where they
came from - they could have been under the kitchen cabinet, the refrigerator, from
the cat, who knows... this is why they normally only come out in the ferret-proofed
room. *sigh*

Debbie
