Subject: [ferrethealth] Adrenal questions
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

My ferret Rocky (age 5) had some hair loss on the top of his tail in Aug. and lots of
blackheads. His hair grew back on his tail a couple of weeks ago, and the
blackheads cleared up. I started giving him oral melatonin about 8 wks ago, just in
case he's developing adrenal.

What I'd like to know is: at what point do you take your ferrets to the vet for
adrenal? If they have rat tail with no other symptoms, do you have them tested, or
do you wait to see if they get other symptoms?

Also, would you go to the vet you know and like even though he
doesn't have much experience, or go to an experienced surgeon who has been
recommended? Besides surgical experience, I'm wondering if she would be better
able to diagnose without all the expensive test/sonogram. Her office is further away
and more expensive, and I've never met her.

Thanks!
Sharon
