I use a Snuggle Safe with the ferrets occasionally.

I use it for sickly, elderly, following surgeries, etc. It doesn't get too hot and stays warm for 8-10 hours. It's hard. I wrap it in a pillow case and put it in one corner so the ferret can choose to be next to it or not.
