No. I've had a very successful right adrenal surgery
(far more difficult surgery than a left) done on a 7.5
year old ferret. Podo lived to about age 10. Lady
Ayeka had combination left adrenal and insulinoma
surgery at age 6. She came through the surgery just
fine but a biopsy of an enlarged lymph node showed she
also had lymphoma. She fully recovered from surgery
but the lymphoma took her from us just five months
later.

Having said that there may be reasons why CB isn't a
good surgical candidate. An example of a reasons not
to do surgery (where the risk would simply be too
high) would be a heart condition.

Our former (North Carolina) vet would say yes. Podo's
adrenal recurred two years after his surgery. By that
time he was 9.5 years old and he had cardiomyopathy
and insulinoma. He no longer could survive another
surgery. Our vet preferred the one month depot
because he could see how Podo reacted to it and adjust
the dosage or discontinue treatment more quickly if
needed. Thankfully Podo had very good results with
Lupron. His symptoms disappeared and his quality of
life remained excellent. We stuck with the one month
depot because it worked so well for him and because,
as he approached age 10, he had a whole lot of other
medical issues going on.

In your place I'd discuss why CB isn't a surgical
candidate with your vet. If the only issue is his age
I might go for a second opinion. Your vet may have
other very good reasons to opt for Lupron. I sure
wouldn't second guess here without knowing a whole lot
more.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, just a
moderately experienced ferret owner.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic four
