Subject: FW: [ferrethealth] torn tongue

Just an FYI in case this happens to anyone else - I had a 1 year old
male ferret with a severe tongue injury about 7 - 8 years ago. The vet
cleaned him up, put him on antibiotics and we just let it heal.

The tongue was ripped half-way across, about in the middle (we think
another ferret got ahold of it from outside the cage or he fought with a
cagemate - I came home from work to find the cage covered in blood). But
they heal rather quickly, I was amazed that within a day or two the
tongue had reattached at almost the right spot - his tongue was a bit
crooked afterwards, but not enough to cause issues.

He did slobber a lot at first while eating, but he actually ate kibble
better than he did the soft foods (baby food, etc.) that we tried to
feed him.

Good luck with Rose, Ulrike, hopefully she'll be much improved in a few
days!

Mary
