Subject: [ferrethealth] diagnosis help
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

My 2 year old Path Valley Farm ferret, Mojave, has been having bird seed poop for awhile now and he's also lost some weight.
It seemed like he was just starting to put the weight back on and the poop was starting to look better some days. However, last night when I got home, he was really lethargic and he looked almost anorexic. His eyes also were not nearly as bright as they usually are. When I did the pinch test he was dehydrated. I made an emergency call to the vet and she said to keep fluids in him and give him some Nutri-cal until I can get him in today.
Today when I brought him in the tech said he weighed 1010 grams down from the 1240 he was last time he went there when everything was alright. The vet said his temperature and heart were all normal and that she didn't feel anything when she palpated his abdoman. She did some bloodwork and said the results should be in tomorrow.
I noticed that he has been drinking lots of water but just assumed it was because of the dry air. I also noticed he has been eating less and less.
Any idea of what may be causing this? Cancer? Something else?
The vets around here do not have much, if any, experience with ferrets so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Sheryl
