Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: What tests do I request?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Okay, normally I would say CBC and Chemistry Panel and chest imaging. Those may still be needed depending on the exam, but also take in a fecal (and you may need to repeat that), and meanwhile reduce the amount of fat/oil you are giving (bird seed appearance is undigested fat balls). You are not giving a lot of laxative, right?

Let the vet know exactly what you are feeding in terms of treats as well as food.

Let your vet also know any sources of liquid, including if the ferret has licked from ponds, puddles, aquariums, etc.

There are a number of causes of loose stools in ferrets and certainly those can tire a ferret.

Could your ferret have been getting into things like latex or rubber toys, rawhide, erasers, etc. that could have caused a partial blockage and irriation as well as lethargy? Lethargy is common with a blockage and partial blockage can cause irritiation.

The tests, if any will depend on what the vet finds on examination.

As has been said, boredom, loneliness, or a handicap could also reduce the tendency to play. We have safely scented toys and created scent maps (See the archives at the addy in my signature.) for those with poor enough sight.

He eats about 2 cups of kibble a day which seems like alot for such a little guy. He looks healthy maybe even a little chubby. I have a vet appt on sat what tests should I request?
