I agree 100%. When a ferret gives up on life they
will tell you. They will do one or more of the
following: they'll stop eating, stop drinking,
vocalize pain (crying or whining), have no energy,
want to do nothing but sleep, etc... The fact that
Sammie hasn't changed her personality at all tells me
she still have a very good quality of life.

If she were mine I'd look at lupron to relieve the
symptoms of adrenal and once she's in better shape I
would discuss surgery with my vet. Seven and a half
is not too old to consider adrenal/insulinoma surgery
if Sammie is otherwise in good shape. Once you
relieve the symptoms of adrenal disease she may be
strong enough. If not you can always continue with
lupron and/or melatonin for adrenal and prednisone and
possibly later diazoxide for insulinoma.

My Nyssa (almost eight) has been treated for lymphoma
for almost 16 months. She doesn't look good. Every
day, though, she tells me she still wants to live.
She eats voarciously and becomes really excited when
she knows it's time for her gravy. She still plays.
She still begs for treats. She still wants to be held
and carried around. I won't give up on Nyssa until
she tells me it's time. That's precisely thet
attitude I'd take with Sammie if she were mine.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic four
(Nyssa, Ella, Zephyr, and Chin Soon)
