Total baldness does not happen overnight. Why didn't your vet immediately
make a presumptive diagnosis of adrenal gland disease when the baldness first
appeared (assuming it followed the classic patterns......starting in the tail
and on the feet), as well as the loss of muscle mass? I would say that this
ferret needs to be put on Lupron or Ferretonin right away.
A ferret that loses its hair up the tail and then the spine and has
concurrent loss of weight/muscle mass has, in all likelihood, adrenal gland disease,
but of course something else could be involved. In any event, when something
is this obviously wrong, prompt treatment is essential. Total alopecia takes
quite awhile and at any stage along the way, a vet who knows anything at all
about ferrets will diagnose AGD....presumptively if the ferret is elderly. I
am baffled at the number of people I've seen over the years who seem to be
diligent about ferret care but then inexplicably watch their ferrets go bald,
apparently not knowing anything about adrenal gland disease, which is about
the most common affliction there is in ferretland.

Also not a vet but have seen a kajillion adrenal cases
