Excellent point!

When Meeteetse had lymphoma in her spinal cord some years back we gave her Prednisolone at high levels but we also provided Torb, an opiate. When that is needed there either is not a sedating effect or when there is and the dose is appropriate the sedating effect is only for the first few days (which is another reason it can be useful after a surgery since ferrets often need to be slowed down then, but that is an OT comment). With Meeteetse the result of controlling her lympho pain was that she became energized and just plain enjoyed life during much of her illness. She had limitations but she made the best of them, and had so much more that she was a happy little girl most of the time.

Other pain control info and meds can be found in the FHL Archives at
