My Buddy has bad days sometimes, too. A mass on his heart gives him brea
thing troubles, and this seems to pain him, though not as much as you wo
uld expect. After reading what I could on this list, I asked my vet to p
rescribe Metacam. One or two people around here said they like it for "t
erminal cases" because it does take care of the pain but doesn't slow th
em down enough to endanger them. Wow! As far as I'm concerned, this drug
is the best for my guy! Great results! Administering a small enough dos
age is a bit tricky, but it really seems to help, and Buddy plays and ex
plores instead of being doped up. My vet puts the drug into a syringe wi
th a TB needle attached, and you need a steady hand to get only ONE drop
from the needle onto a little soft food, which you hand-feed to make su
re he gets it. If too much comes out, you would probably need to toss it
and try again, but so far that hasn't happened. I just give it on the b
ad days--sometimes am and pm. (Sukie--The bad stuff I've read about Torb, is
that just for surgery-level doses? Maybe you said, I just can't remember now while
I'm writing this.)

[Co-Moderator Note: we have not had trouble with Torb ever, so I suspect that
when that happens there may be too large a dose, or perhaps another medical
condition, med, or something the vet doesn't realize is being given (Always tell a vet
everything being given, including supplements, herbals, etc.) may conflict. -- SDC]
