Subject: [ferrethealth] please ferret needs help
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I have a 7 and half year old male. He has developed adrenal and we are
treating him with meds. He had surgery several years back to remove an ulcerated
cyst on his outer thigh and they nearly lost him. He has a hard time going
under.
Recently (Friday the 10th) I noticed he was trying to poo and pee and could
not. He continued to try over and over and nothing. I got him an appointment
for the afternoon, in the meantime I gave him some Vaseline & ferretone
mixture in case it was a foreign body blockage. That helped him poo some, but he
still could not pee.
Apon examination at the vet's office he could tell his bladder was extremely
enlarged to the point it could rupture. X-ray confirmed this. The used a
cauterization to drain his bladder. The urine was red with little puss pockets
in it. Once the bladder was drained he pooed a ton.
I dont have a copy of the blood test in front of me, but I do know the BUN
was 102.
I also know from the test results the red in the urine was not blood but
billirubin (not sure on spelling)
My vet put him on Clavomox .25 bid.
He started doing better, was eating good, drinking and the pee had cleared
up.
Now today (15th) he was unable to pee again, and just poo a little with a
lot of straining. When we tried to go he would squeak from discomfort.
So I took him back up to the vet and they tried to use the cathider but were
having trouble so aspirated it from his bladder, it was still clear, no red.
Upon examination she could tell the prostrate was enlarged.
We are afraid to do surgery for adrenal, fear he will not pull through
because of going under issue and his age.
Any suggestions please. What can we give him for enlarged prostate and any
thoughts on what is causing this?
