Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] RE: Elevated liver enzymes--a different twist
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Thanks Sukie. I've read Dr. Williams' articles. Which is why I'm not
terribly worried that Shelly has liver disease.

My question is basically whether the extremely elevated serum
ALT can be due to ingestion of other animals' ALT (via
organ/muscle tissue)?

Since Shelly is eating well, I know it's not hepatic lipidosis. Since
she has not sustained trauma, I know it's not from massive rupture
of cells. In the past she, as well as other ferrets of mine, has had
higher than "normal" ALT values but nothing so extreme as this
(over 1200). Her vet is very ferret-experienced, and would
probably dismiss it if it weren't So bizarrely high, and the *only*
part of her bloodwork that was out of normal ranges.

I'm just trying to find an explanation for this, wondered if anyone
else had similar experience...

thanks
skyla
