I don't think you need a "ferret" vet as much as you need a veterinary osteopath or chiropractor. Your vet should be able to recommend one, and shouldn't be offended if you want a specialist's second opinion. (If he is offended, time for a new vet!) Clicking hips can occur in all species, and there are many causes, some harmless and some not. For example, the sound could be coming from one of the major tendons that is snapping against the bone, from gas in the joints, or because of hip dysplasia. The hips are very complicated structures and it can be hard to pin down the cause of a click.
