Subject: [ferrethealth] Trying to find some answers- kit passed away

Hi everyone,
My 5/6 month old ferret jill Gypsy passed away recently (thursday evening) =
after a horrible week and unfortunately we haven't been able to find out wh=
y (vet is conducting a post mortem, not sure when results will be in though=
) I'm trying to find some answers though (she was my first ferret) so perha=
ps if anyone has had a similar experiance or any ideas... it started on sun=
day when she had a severe fit (screaming, muscle spasms, drooling) she stop=
ped eating/drinking, had hind leg weakness and was just really weak in gene=
ral, vet on monday gave her fluids, antibiotics (we suspected spider bite o=
r insulinoma/hypoglycemia as she was showing pretty much all the symptoms) =
she recovered well and I took her back home. Only the next day found her in=
the cage with complete hind leg paralysis, she had minor fits throughout t=
he night, vet in the morning again gave antiobiotics, glucose, got bloodwor=
k back and they were completely normal appart from showing signs of stress =
and muscle damage. He gave her valium and drugs to help stop the fitting at=
around 7pm but unfortunately she passed away that night at the clinic.
I don't know how my kit turned from being happy and playful on Saturday nig=
ht to what she was...we eliminated poisoning, spider bite, the vet thinks o=
ne possibility could have been distemper- she had a canine distemper vaccin=
e 3 weeks beforehand. But she didn't show any classic distemper signs (skin=
lesions, discharge)...any advice or ideas would be great. =
