Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Just to clarify on distemper vaccines...
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Yes, Galaxy has not had the needed tests. Personally, in my gut I suspect that it lasts longer, and we certainly have used it at times (including the last vax given since they couldn't get Purevax then) but proof that it actually does protest for a year is lacking.

Many thanks to Brett and anyone else who contacted Merial to find out about Purevax. The news that it is being continued was great to get. I'll bet someone at that one hospital confused Merial and Purevax with United and Fervac in speaking with others in their corporation.

I had it verified last night that the zoo Purevax is the same vaccine as their ferret one so if they ever stop direct ferret market selling then aiming to get that is an option; the testing exists.

Fromm is no longer made; that was the vaccine which changed to Galaxy which isn't quite the same thing.

Yes, if most are vaccinated that markedly reduces the risk of an infection transmitting through a population so your having most vaccinated does reduce the risk rate of the two who can not be vaccinated for health reasons, according to past CD transmission studies discussed in _Biology and Diseases of the Ferrets, 2nd edition_.
