A certain very good retired vet in your area (you know
the one I mean) used Ft. Dodge before Merial Purevax
was available and went back to it when Purevax was
unavailable. When I asked about it he admitted it was
off label for ferrets (it is normally used for dogs)
but he believed it is effective. He also said it had
other things in there (I never did find out what) that
a ferret does not need. He had stopped using Fervac-D
and Galaxy-D because of very high reaction rates and
in his opinion Ft. Dodge was an acceptable alternative
that would protect our ferrets. His first preference
was for Purevax.

I would not be surprised if vets he trained continued
to use Ft. Dodge if Merial Purevax was unavailable or
if a ferret had a serious reaction to it.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic four
